Dandwat- Shri Amarnath Yatra- 2010
Watch the entire yatra path at the main link of Amarnath Yatra and then imagine what all this man traveled this way (Dandwat) and what all he was going to go through. Where it was difficult for a common man to cover up all 36 kms, this man crossed all limits of his devotion.
Generally in India people do this type of pilgrimage/ yatra if any of their desired wishes (what they asked from God) gets fulfilled. And then they do what they promised God. i.e. dandwat. It is only God who can give power to complete or to even start a journey like this. Hats off to this man!

After crossing the upright mountains, bridges and rivers etc. The Bhola Bhakt crossed these snowy mountain path and then... |
And then in front of him was this dangerous glacier valley where every other man took towards the left mountain climbing a little upwards and avoided going down the valley. This is where the Bhola Bhakt chose to go straight down the valley along the dangerous seepage as shown in the middle of the valley. |
The pictures were taken towards the left of where the bhola bhakt had reached doing the dandwat yatra. |
Dandwat yatra is a yatra famous in India for the hindu pilgrimages where devotees measure the distance with their height with hand stretched on top. One lies down straight and then puts a mark with his hands stretched forward till the maximum limit his hands go and then gets up and moves forward and stands at that mark again and lye's down further to put the next mark the maximum he can reach while lying down. This ways he spreads his body up the whole path. |

We were walking on the mid of the mountain alongside(much above the glacier valley, when one of the BSF soldiers shouted from the top of the mountain towards our left (across us) asking the 'Bhola Bhakt' (towards our right) to not move any further towards the right as he might go deep inside the seepage. It was then we realized that there was some human down where we were afraid to slip down. Doing dandwat, all by himself.
|

It was dangerous going down the valley to at least know his name and congratulate him for the zeal and zest Bhole Baba provided him, so I stepped a few steps further carefully to somehow zoom in the camera to the maximum to get his close up.

Wearing a vest and a pant. Something wrapped further around his waist and a thermocol kind of sheet to prevent him from getting wet. And BARE FOOT on the chilling ice all the way for hours.
