Everything we do, we do for happiness. Think about it.
Why do you want to succeed in your career? Why do you want to get married? Why do you want to have children? Why do you want your children to succeed? Why do you want more money? Why do you want to buy more stuff with that money, say clothes, cars, property, etc.? Because all of that will make you happy.
Now think for one moment, X makes you unhappy, would you want X to happen? NO! Let me illustrate with some examples: you lose your favourite watch, you lose your job, a near or dear one dies, etc. You don’t want those things to happen because they make you unhappy!
In everything we ever seek, the only thing we are actually looking for is happiness! Would you seek something that makes you unhappy? No! Thus, I rest my case: everything we do, we do for happiness!
Now, here’s the real twister, what if I told you that you don’t need all those things to happen or not happen to be happy. What if I told you, you could be unconditionally and constantly happy, no matter what happens! You don’t believe me right. You think I’m someone out to scam you! Lol! Well I don’t blame you, this does sound too good to be true. But what if it’s not? What if it’s possible to be happy all the time! Wouldn’t you call that “heaven” of better still not some far off fantasy place but heaven here and now, “heaven on earth.”
It’s possible and here’s why, happiness is not something “out there”, happiness is your very nature. You, my friend, are Happiness! You are happiness. Happiness is not in the objects, happiness is you and you become aware of yourself when your desire for attaining some object is fulfilled. Then after a while you once again start running after some other object and forget yourself i.e. become unhappy. Once again, when that object too is attained, you once again experience yourself i.e. become happy.
Now instead of playing this cat and mouse game, what if you decided to remain in the constant recognition of yourself, even while chasing all those things we talked about: marriage, kids, career, money, etc. What would be the result? You will be constantly happy! This constant happiness or self recognition is at times referred to as self-realisation, enlightenment, nirvana, etc.
You don't need to believe me, you can see for yourself. Find yourself and you will find constant happiness!
